20 Self-Love Songs (for dancers) – #movetolove2019

February is supposed to be about love, but the most important kind of love for girls ages 8 – 17 is not romantic. We believe girls need more self-love. And we believe a key ingredient of self-love (& happiness) is doing what you love. The world needs strong & inspired girls doing more of what they love!

It’s day 8 of our #movetolove2019 series, where we’re spotlighting Friday Night Show performances from our dance camps. We’ve chosen 20 self-love songs with lyrics that echo our dance camp mission: to empower girls to move to love.

What exactly do we mean by “move to love”?

MOVE – to pass from one place or position to another.

LOVE – to access the part of our mind that is connected to Spirit; the source of peace, joy, happiness and a whole bunch of other “positive” emotions.

So move to love means to move to a new place (or state of mind) – the state of mind connected to your Spirit (peace, joy, happiness…all that positive stuff). Please share your inspirational dance videos on Instagram this month! #movetolove2019 @danceadtc

Song #8: “Titanium” By Collin McLoughlin

Originally performed at our VT Dance Camp

“I’m bulletproof nothing to lose. Fire away, fire away. Ricochet, you take your aim. Fire away, fire away. You shoot me down but I won’t fall, I am titanium. You shoot me down but I won’t fall,

I am Titanium.”

The Self-Love Lesson from “Titanium” by Collin McLoughlin

This is a beautiful contemporary dance solo performed for American Dance Idol at our VT dance camp back in 2012. It is a cover of “Titanium” by Collin McLoughlin (originally produced and co-written by David Guetta feat. Sia).

Titanium is a metal that has a high strength-to-density ratio and is resistant to corrosion (gradual destruction by reaction to environment). How do we channel our inner titanium-level strength and resist gradually breaking down in this harsh world? We should start by understanding that our reactions to our environment – our own thoughts & perceptions – may be flawed.

We do not see the world as it is. We see the world as we are. And our problems are not the issues of the world that we choose to believe in, or the people who say mean things to us. Our only problem is that we deny love and choose fear. Our fears are delusional thoughts we bought into a long time ago that we continue to project onto the present and the future.

We can only become titanium – bulletproof – when we realize our fears are illusions. They aren’t real, but they sure feel real, so we continue to believe in them. With a willingness to witness our negative thought patterns, we can slowly begin to disassociate from the fears we’ve come to believe in – when we look at darkness without judgment, we shine light on it.
