20 Self-Love Songs (for dancers) – #movetolove2019

February is supposed to be about love, but the most important kind of love for girls ages 8 – 17 is not romantic. We believe girls need more self-love. And we believe a key ingredient of self-love (& happiness) is doing what you love. The world needs strong & inspired girls doing more of what they love!

It’s day 5 of our #movetolove2019 series, where we’ll spotlight Friday Night Show performances from our dance camps. We’ve chosen 20 self-love songs with lyrics that echo our dance camp mission: to empower girls to move to love.

What exactly do we mean by “move to love”?

MOVE – to pass from one place or position to another.

LOVE – to access the part of our mind that is connected to Spirit; the source of peace, joy, happiness and a whole bunch of other “positive” emotions.

So move to love means to move to a new place (or state of mind) – the state of mind connected to your Spirit (peace, joy, happiness…all that positive stuff). Please share your inspirational dance videos on Instagram this month! #movetolove2019 @danceadtc

Song #5: “Sweet Lovin'” By Sigala

Originally performed at our VT Dance Camp

“Never felt like this. Prayers have been answered. Memories I won’t forget.

Always blind to see.”

The Self-Love Lesson from “Sweet Lovin'” by Sigala

When we fall in love, our brain releases a powerful chemical called oxytocin. “Sweet Lovin'” feelings are intoxicating, but if we lose our “Self” in another person, we’re actually not in love.

We must continue to follow our passion, especially during the high of a new relationship. Our passion is that thing that excites and scares us at the same time…that thing we really want to do but are terrified won’t work. We need to go and do that so it is there for us when the “honeymoon phase” wears off.

A healthy relationship is supposed to elevate us to be great together, and still be great on our own. We don’t want a relationship to define us. We should feel free and encouraged to keep focused on our personal goals and well-being.

We love the message of the Holstee Manifesto:

“This is your life. Do what you love, and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV. If you are looking for the love of your life, stop; they will be waiting for you when you start doing things you love. Stop over analyzing, all emotions are beautiful. When you eat, appreciate every last bite. Open your mind, arms, and heart to new things and people. We are united in our differences. Ask the next person you see what their passion is, and share your inspiring dream with them. Travel often; getting lost will help you find yourself. Some opportunities only come once, seize them. Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them. So go out and start creating. Life is short. Live your dream and share your passion.”
