20 Self-Love Songs (for dancers) – #movetolove2019

February is supposed to be about love, but the most important kind of love for girls ages 8 – 17 is not romantic. We believe girls need more self-love. And we believe a key ingredient of self-love (& happiness) is doing what you love. The world needs strong & inspired girls doing more of what they love!

It’s day 2 of our #movetolove2019 series, where we’ll spotlight Friday Night Show performances from our dance camps. We’ve chosen 20 self-love songs with lyrics that echo our dance camp mission: to empower girls to move to love.

What exactly do we mean by “move to love”?

MOVE – to pass from one place or position to another.

LOVE – to access the part of our mind that is connected to Spirit; the source of peace, joy, happiness and a whole bunch of other “positive” emotions.

So move to love means to move to a new place (or state of mind) – the state of mind connected to your Spirit (peace, joy, happiness…all that positive stuff). Please share your inspirational dance videos on Instagram this month! #movetolove2019 @danceadtc

Song #2: “Magic” By Sia

Originally performed at our VT Dance Camp

“But I’ve been waiting for a magic moment. But maybe there are magic moments. Could it be a magic moment now? I’ve been waiting for a magic moment. But maybe there are magic moments. Baby it’s a magic moment now.

But darling, it’s a magical, magical life, life, life.”

The Self-Love Lesson from “Magic” by Sia

Our perception IS our reality. And we have the power to change it – like magic.

All of us have downloaded a blueprint in our subconscious mind of “how it really is.” Our belief system is like the architectural blueprint for a house – that someone else designed. Our views on love, school, friends, money – and every other aspect of life – are constructed by our upbringing and the lessons we’re taught (at home, in school, online, and out in our world).

And just as with any architectural blueprint, we can change our mind’s framework if the one we have is not producing the results we seek. But we need to understand there’s another way to see any situation.

Here in the U.S., when we draw a circle, we consider it to be zero, nothingness. But in India and many other Asian countries, a circle means totality, wholeness. The perceived meaning of the same drawing is the opposite.

So if we want to move from fear to love, we need to be willing to think differently. Changing our mind about anything is hard work. The realization that we CAN change our mind – and therefore our life – is the start. This is not magical thinking, but science – neuroplasticity. New neural pathways are formed in our brain as we change our habitual thoughts, language and feelings from fear to love.

So quiet your doubting mind, commit to seeing things more clearly, and see what transpires. It’s a magical life!
