Sarah Bassett grew up dancing at a small local studio in Newton, Massachussetts, training in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and acrobatics. She began assisting and substitute teaching as a teen, eventually working up to a professional teaching role and coaching the mini dance team.

Sarah has a degree in early childhood and special education from University of Vermont. While at UVM, she trained with the dance faculty and was co-president of UVM Dance Force, which provides dance and performance opportunities for former competitive dancers to beginners. She also wrote the curriculum for and helped to restart her local YMCA’s dance program post-pandemic.

Sarah graduated from UVM in 2023 and is currently a first-grade teacher in Burlington. When not in the classroom, she teaches dance at Spotlight Vermont and takes classes in the area (including with ADTC’s own Carissa Bellando). She has been an Instructor-Counselor at ADTC in Vermont & Maryland since 2024. Sarah wants campers to learn to be their authentic selves and to be confident in who they are, and that leadership can take many forms.

Outside of dance and teaching first graders to read, Sarah loves maple creemees (a true Vermont classic), pilates, yoga, spending time outside, and taking long naps. A fun fact about Sara is that her voice was used on PBS Kids’ Curious George and Arthur when she was younger!
