ADTC Team-Player – Meet Teagan B. from WI!

“My A.D.T.C. Superpower is being a Team-Player! I love my dance family and feel so lucky that it now includes by ADTC dance family!! No one from my school, studio or town was going to ADTC my first year, but I thought it looked like the best time and wanted to go so badly. I worked very hard and earned some money that combined with my Christmas and Birthday money was enough to help pay for the camp so I could go.

I want to inspire other girls to know that camp is going to be the BEST time!! (see the rest of my camp story below!)

My proudest accomplishment was my first year of dance competition because I made a lot of friends that first year and it made me love dance even more than I already did. Now, I feel like I’m even better because of all of the great teachers who have taught me.

I love to dance because when I perform it makes me feel really happy. Especially at competitions I am happy because I know there are people in the audience who have never seen a dance performance — and that makes me want to try even harder so they will enjoy dance just as much as I do.

ADTC: What is your True Color Personality Style?

Teagan B: I am Blue (“Peacemaker”). I agree with the exact description it gave me. I was impressed with how well it understood me based on what I picked. I don’t think there is one thing I would change or add to the description. This even helped me understand myself in better words than ones I come up with.

ADTC: Who is your Idol?

Teagan B: My friend, Maya. I look up to her because she is really sweet and cares for everyone. She makes me want to be just as nice to people as she is.

ADTC: What goals are you working on right now (in both dance & life)?

Teagan B: Being able to turn in my Scorpion. Getting to my brother’s level of being a good player of Overwatch (a video game). To finally finish an Anime book before I start another one…

ADTC: Tell us about a difficult situation in your life and how you got through it. What did you learn?

Teagan B: Once when I was in 1st grade I liked the smell of the rocks on the ground at my school, I took some home to smell. I was watching TV when I accidentally put the rock to close to my nose and put it up my nose. I started to panic because I did not want anyone to know my mistake. After about 2 minutes I calmed my self down and thought to my self ” if I got it up my nose than I can get it back out. I tried blowing my nose really hard, that did not work. Then I tried using tweezers, that also did not work. I went to my last resort taking the end of a stick flossier and stuck the pointy end up into my nose. surprisingly it worked and I got it out but a little blood came out of my nose because I cut it with the flossier. I threw away the rock and told my self to never smell rocks again. My lesson learned was to not sniff rocks and if something can go one way it can also go the other way. Also don’t panic with something as small as that.

ADTC: What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done? What did you learn?

Teagan B: I went on the G-Force ride at a fair. I learned that some things look really scary, but if people come off of the ride smiling, it’s probably more fun than scary.

ADTC: What is the your favorite ADTC memory & why?

Teagan B: I really liked the night before the last day of camp when we all went into the lobby and had a spa night with face masks and nail polish. We watched a movie, ate popcorn and chips, and stayed up really late. I can’t wait to do that again this year, especially since this year some of my friends from my studio are coming to camp with me!

ADTC: What is the your A.D.T.C. Superpower? How are you aspiring to embody this persona?

Teagan B: My Superpower is being a Team-Player! The first day of camp, I was very nervous! Would the other girls be nice? Would the counselors be friendly? Would the food be good? Would I get enough sleep? I was so worried!

Right away after arriving, a girl came right up to me at the door and said “WELCOME TO CAMP! WE ARE GOING TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN!” Then, I met all of the counselors and they helped me get registered, set up with the Canteen, find my room, and then asked me to sit down and work on a craft. A craft? I LOVE to craft!! I felt better already.

The next couple of days were hard because I had only just turned ten and this was my first week away from home — EVER! I missed everything about my home — even my brother! I cried. The counselors helped me, held my hand walking to dance class and I did not feel so lonely. The other girls were also so nice and my secret sister gave me a candy bar and fun notes. I talked with my roommate a lot and she liked ALL of the same YouTubers that I did. We had a lot in common. We played one of my favorite games where you try to get an Oreo cookie from your forehead into your mouth and we laughed and laughed. We played a trivia game and I loved that because I knew a lot of the answers! I felt better and started to really have a great time at camp.

We went to see MamaMia! and that is my very favorite. We had Dance Idol and I was so impressed with the dancers at the camp. I hoped to be that good someday! I worked and worked on my dances for the Friday show. I wanted to get them perfect! Then, bam! It was Friday and time for the show. It was great and we did a great job! My parents and even my brother told me they were proud of me. I won a special award of “Most Dedicated Dancer” which made me feel happy. I made many great friends and now it was time to leave. Now, I was going to be homesick for my new friends!

I did miss my ADTC friends and made a plan to go back to ADTC camp this summer. Then, one day I was dancing with my studio for the Applause Dance Competition. My dances were done, so my Mom said she would buy me a smoothie — I LOVE smoothies! I was waiting in line to order when two girls from another studio asked me if my name was Teagan. I was confused, but said yes. They asked me if I had gone to ADTC. All of a sudden, I recognized them!! It was two of my friends from ADTC!!! I was so happy and they were, too. We hugged and laughed and took pictures. It was so great! Then we hugged more when we found out that we were all going again this summer AND for the same week, too!! Yay!

Now, I am even more excited to go to camp!
