ADTC Dreamer – Meet Ellen M. from NYC!

“My A.D.T.C. Superpower is Dreamer! Well, all of them, but I truly feel hard work pays off…dream BIG.

Dancing is truly the hidden language of the soul and something everyone can speak. I can express myself in a way words cannot! It is my escape and such a beautiful art.

Whenever someone, be it a dance teacher or higher voice, tells me no, it pushes me to work even harder to prove them wrong. A difficult time for me was when I dislocated my knee and my ability to dance was taken from me for a few weeks while I was recovering. This really taught me a lot, though unexpectedly. I truly had to be a team player, watching dance classes, supporting my fellow dancers, and keeping myself healthily healing my body.

I want other girls to learn that anything is possible! No dream is too small. You’re writing your own story.”

ADTC: What is your True Color Personality Style?

Ellen M: I am mostly blue! I agree. I’m a peacemaker! I feel as though I have traits of each color, and it is about balance and being well-rounded!

ADTC: Who is your Idol?

Ellen M: I have many idols – my mom, sister, and dance teachers. I also love Misty Copeland – an African American Ballerina who is so confident in her own skin, breaking down preconceived expectations and visions in the Ballet/Fitness world. She had it tough growing up and is now a huge impact in the dance world.

ADTC: What is your proudest accomplishment & why?

Ellen M: I love being able to support myself in NYC, doing what I love for a living!

ADTC: What goals are you working on right now (in both dance & life)?

Ellen M: In dance, I hope to keep earning my job back as a Radio City Rockette. I also want to dance for a contemporary ballet company and be a part of a Broadway show or tour. In life, I hope to get married and start a family of my own!

ADTC: What is the most daring thing you’ve ever done? What did you learn?

Ellen M: I love to travel, and traveling solo is very daring. I have to be so organized and aware with an open mind. I discovered so much about myself personally, and embraced every bit of culture around the world as I could! At ADTC, we sometimes go ice skating – something I’m not good at/slightly scared of. The young campers helped me, the Director, and we had a blast!

ADTC: What is the your favorite ADTC memory & why?

Ellen M: Magic happens at ADTC! My favorite memories always include watching the growth of the dancers as performers and young ladies from day one through the end of camp! It is truly special to watch friendships grow, struggles be overcome, and share in laughter. The pool parties are always fun, too!
