Krisna Martinez, a Texas native, graduated in 2003 from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas with a BA in English and a Minor in Dance. In 2005, she graduated from U.I.W. with a Masters in Teaching and received her Texas Educator Certificate for English Language Arts grades 8 - 12. Throughout her course work she studied with Buddy and Susan Trevino and was an active member of the U.I.W. Ballet Company where she extensively studied character, ballroom, jazz, Limon based modern, dance history, and dance composition.
Along with her studies and performances at U.I.W. Krisna danced for GM&Co., a S.A. based modern company, for two years, and taught jazz and modern for five years at local dance studios. During the summer she was a returning faculty and staff member of the Joffrey Workshop TX and the Elite Ecole dance intensive workshops. After graduation in 2005 she became a middle school reading teacher for two years. While teaching she was a yearbook and cheerleading advisor and founded an after school dance program for Kinder-8th grade students.
Krisna currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband Christopher and has just completed her first year at NYU studying Dance Education. During her studies at NYU she has performed at local theaters throughout the city and has had the opportunity to study with master teachers such as Lynn Simonson, Jana Hicks, and Frank Hatchet.
In addition to teaching jazz dance this summer (2007) at ADTC, Krisna was also the Program Director for the VT and NC camps. Upbeat, nurturing, and extremely hard-working, Krisna thrives as a leader and can't wait to come back to ADTC next summer!
