Amanda Dorio holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, along with a minor in Psychology from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. With more than 20 years of professional training and experience, she comes to ADTC with an array of skills and knowledge to share with students of all ages. She has studied and performed in Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey in many different dance genres, including Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Hip Hop, Flamenco, African, Musical Theater, Lyrical, and Salsa. She has worked with established choreographers such as: Ellen Cornfield, David Dorfman, Randy James, Julia Ritter, Christian VonHoward, John Evans, Nina Winthrop, and Stuart Loungway, and has performed in pieces produced by each. Amanda has been a part of professional companies such as modern based Nina Winthrop and Dancers, and contemporary ballet based Terra Firma Dance Theater. She has worked as a back up dancer and also danced with Lady Sovereign and NeYo for the launch of Xbox Kinect in Times Square.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Amanda was a member of the Scranton Civic Ballet Company for 4 years, performing in several lead roles in productions such as The Nutcracker, Stars and Stripes, Swan Lake, Coppelia, and Giselle. In 2003, she attended Pennsylvania Governor's School of the Arts, as one of only 30 dancers accepted into the summer program. When she attended Rutgers University, she danced in numerous student and faculty pieces, and choreographed many works for others and herself. She was also a member of University DanceWorks.
Amanda has many years of teaching experience, and loves to share her knowledge of dance with individuals of all ages and abilities, including toddlers, children, teens, mentally handicapped individuals, adults, and the elderly. She even developed a program for senior citizens, which introduced dance as a form of physical therapy. She has a unique set of skills for teaching and choreographing, and always strives for dances that are exciting for both dancers and audiences. As a result, her choreography has won several awards. This includes competition solos for students, group dances, and routines for cheerleaders. In addition to teaching many dance genres, Amanda also teaches various fitness classes, as she is an AFAA certified group fitness instructor, as well as a certified Zumba instructor.
Amanda has worked at ADTC in North Carolina and New Jersey for the past two summers teaching classes such as Jazz, Modern, Ballet, Tone & Stretch, Salsa, Flamenco, and Choreography.
