American Dance Training Camp lets entrepreneurial and enthusiastic dance teachers, coaches, community organizations, and even parents "host" ADTC day camps in their hometown and/or set up weekend camps in the location of their choice. This means that ADTC is "on the road" throughout the year, and we need more and more Certified Instructors every day to keep up with the demand for our program!
Like our overnight camps, ADTC local and destination dance camps focus on hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, musical theatre and ballet, but the gender and ages of campers is at the host's discretion. Standard instruction time is from 9am - 3pm daily with an hour for lunch.
ADTC pays local and destination camp instructors by the hour (6 hours per day!) and also pays for travel, accommodations and food for Instructors.. We are looking for instructors who are passionate about dance and sharing their love of dance with children. ADTC staff participate in 4 required dance classes a day (Monday-Friday for local weekday camps and Saturday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday for local or destination weekend camps). Depending on position, ADTC Instructors should be able to independently choreograph and teach (or re-teach assigned choreography) an original 2-3 minute performance piece to each student group. Instructors must also be capable of leading warm-ups, across-the-floor work, conditioning, combinations, etc. (ADTC provides materials to help with training).
Dance classes are organized by age and overall ability level across disciplines. Once placed, campers remain within the same group for all dance classes that session. We expect to keep dance classes to no more than 14 students per class. Each class meets daily, but times and locations may vary day-to-day.
To determine ability, a “dance screening” takes place after check-in for each camp, during which staff members teach small groups of campers a short combination (most likely in jazz and hip hop) and then give each camper a score. Staff members are expected to help make this process as non-competitive and encouraging for each camper as possible.
The core dance techniques offered at ADTC are jazz, hip-hop, and theatre dance (theatre dance also incorporates basic ballet). Other techniques offered can include lyrical, modern, Latin jazz, tap, etc.
The adjunct class/es offered during each session depends on the specialties of the camp's Instructors and the number of campers that we have for that session.
ADTC staff may be assigned to teach between one and four different dance techniques for the duration of each camp, depending on the host's preferences and the number of dancers at the camp. All ADTC staff should also expect to teach elective dance classes, dance discussions, relaxation workshops, etc. depending on their knowledge base and the hosts' needs.
The daily dance schedule for each local/destination camp - including which staff members will teach which disciplines, and where and when each class will be held each day - will be finalized at least 2 weeks prior to the camp.
Instructors are expected to take whatever time is necessary to learn the choreography and prepare for the camp.
When not teaching dance classes, ADTC staff will help out around the camp with other activities including “American Dance Idol,” "Dance Tech," etc., administrative tasks, lunch preparation, etc. The fundamental expectation is that staff members will participate in the ADTC camp experience as a whole by being accessible, responsible, positive role models for the campers throughout all facets of each camp session.
Types of ADTC Local/Destination Camps:
