What prerequisite skills do I need to become a Certified ADTC Instructor?
You do not need any formal dance or educational background in order to successfully complete our Level 1 Certification. You do need to be good with children and have accurate rhythm. However, Level 2/3 Certification requires dance experience and talent.
Do I need to know how to choreograph?
You do need to be able to choreograph in the dance style you specialize in for Level 2/3 Certification. You do not need to know how to choreograph for Level 1 Certification.
Will I be tested at the end of the certification course?
Yes, there will be a practical exam at the end of the certification course (no written exam though!). For Level 2/3 Certification, you will need to teach your fellow dance colleagues your own choreography as you would at an ADTC camp. For Level 1 Certification, you will need to learn the beginner - intermediate choreography of your fellow dance colleagues and be able to re-teach an assigned set of 8 counts of 8. This practical exam will allow you to apply some of the strategies and teaching techniques that you have learned during the course, and give the course director an opportunity to assess your ability to dance, communicate and lead a group.
