Please note that most optional activities below require parental consent. Due to weather, availability &/or scheduling conflicts, we may be unable to offer all activities during your child's session. Campers register for activities during the Sunday afternoon team meeting (they can only register for activities if you have signed the necessary waivers!). Campers will be accompanied by ADTC staff who are trained in CPR & First Aid during each activity.
Any fees associated with participation in these optional activities is noted next to the activity description below or on the activity-specific waiver. Please include enough money in your child's canteen account to cover the fees for all activities in which your child will participate.
Alpine Tower
The challenge is to scale this amazingly impressive 50' high climbing structure, which is a cross between a climbing wall and a jungle gym! Choose your personal challenge from numerous routes of varying difficulty, all leading to the top. Campers will find the Alping Tower to be a real asset in building teamwork and self-confidence. And, of course, it's a lot of fun! Cost: $55 (Offered once per week).
Horseback Riding

The Nantahala Village Riding Stable is located on the property. No experience is necessary for your guided Western style ride through the Nantahala National Forest. Campers are sure to enjoy views of Fontana Lake and you may even see (or hear!) the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad as it begins its journey through the Nantahala Gorge. Cost: $25 (Offered twice per week).
White Water Rafting
The three hour whitewater rafting trip down the Nantahala River, let by a professional guide at River Runners Retreat across the street, provides an exhilarating experience for campers. The Nantahala River is swift running with plenty of rapids, yet just enough calm water to allow for relaxing and enjoying the view. Cost: $35 (Offered once per week).
Fontana Lake Kayak Tour
The staff at the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) will take us for a leisurely paddle on Fontana Lake. No prior kayaking experience is required. Life preservers provided. CAMPER MUST BE A SELF-SUFFICIENT SWIMMER!
Cost: $40 (Offered once per week).
Paintball
Feel the adrenaline...come play...While you're at ADTC you can do more than just work on improving as a dancer. Tactical skills on the field are also part of your adventure in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Take part in our Thursday team mission! Cost: $30 (Offered once per week).
Swimming

In sunny weather, we'll cool down at the Nantahala Village Resort's outdoor pool. CAMPER MUST BE A SELF-SUFFICIENT SWIMMER.

Hiking Trip
Take a hike! We'll take you on a leisurely hike in the mountains where you
can admire the natural beauty of the area and breathtaking views.
No Cost (Offered twice per week).
Tennis, Shuffleboard & Volleyball
The Village has two brand new tennis courts and rackets for guest use. One lighted shuffleboard court is near the swimming pool, and an open grassy area for volleyball is over by the pond. Don't worry if you didn't bring equipment - you may borrow equipment by asking the Front Dest staff.

Village Game Room
The Game Room has a pool table, ping pong, air hockey, and numerous video arcade games. Because it's located near the Lodge and next to the swimming pool, it's a great place for campers to enjoy multiple forms of entertainment.

World Dance Company

Campers can elect to participate in our unique "World Dance Company" and learn a special dance piece to perform in the Friday night show. Nightly rehearsals will be held from 9 - 9:55pm beginning Monday after the all-camp "World Dance Night." Participation is optional and all proceeds go to "ASTEP" (Artists Striving to End Poverty), an arts-based non-profit organization designed specifically to combat worldwide childhood poverty. Cost: $15 (Offered once per week).
