"The camps are fun and encouraging. Both of my daughters made new, lifelong friendships and had so much fun at camp. One of the most positive moments for my oldest daughter was her counselor encouraging her to keep up with dance!"
Tro grew up as a competitive gymnast from ages 4 - 12, then transitioned into dance as a more enjoyable and less painful alternative. She was accepted into the Acting program at Carnegie Mellon University, and upon graduation, moved to New York City where she began training with David Marquez at Broadway Dance Center.
In August 2008, Tro got a rare opportunity to audition for the Broadway revival of "West Side Story". She wanted to be considered for the tomboy, Anybodys, so she cut her hair and dressed like a boy for the audition. She got called back, and danced for Arthur Laurents (the Librettist and now Director of the revival), and not only did he cast her in the show that same day, but he insisted that Anybodys be the one to begin the dream ballet in Act II. Tro considers this an incredible dance and performance experience where she was able to play a truly unique role in one of the most notable Broadway shows.
Since leaving "West Side Story" and returning to California, Tro has started teaching audition workshops and Broadway style classes. She's also realized that her real passion and love for teaching comes from watching young dancers go beyond the movement to find the expression behind it. Watching her students fill the choreography with their own thoughts and feelings and meaning, or telling a story with their movement, is the most exciting thing to see. Tro considers this her true strength as a teacher and choreographer. She explains, "I will never create movement for the sake of movement, but rather movement that connects the dancer and the music with a story or a journey or idea or feeling."
