"The camps are fun and encouraging. Both of my daughters made new, lifelong friendships and had so much fun at camp. One of the most positive moments for my oldest daughter was her counselor encouraging her to keep up with dance!"
Kathryn was born in Rochester, NY and has been dancing since age three. She is trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and modern. She began assistant teaching classes at her hometown studio, Fitzsimmons Dance Factory, as a high school freshman, eventually teaching her own class (jazz and lyrical to 8 - 12 year olds) in her senior year.
She pursued her passion for dance at the collegiate level as a dance major at Hobart and William Smith College, a small liberal arts school with an excellent dance program. A combination of body awareness (anatomy, somatics), choreography/performance (technique and composition/choreography) and teaching (arts and education, senior seminar) have constituted the core of her college studies.
For the past four summers Kathryn has taught classes at her studio, including a summer dance camp for 15 - 18 year olds during their intensive week in August. She is comfortable with paying attention to multiple children at once, meeting each child's individual needs while catering to the class as a whole. She also is well-accustomed to helping children cope with homesickness, finding strategies to take their minds off of home and refocusing energy toward what we can work on at camp.
Kathryn is graduating in May and can't wait to join ADTC's Stratton, Vermont staff this summer for all five weeks!
