"The camps are fun and encouraging. Both of my daughters made new, lifelong friendships and had so much fun at camp. One of the most positive moments for my oldest daughter was her counselor encouraging her to keep up with dance!"
Kambi Gathesha, a beloved hip hop dance teacher at ADTC for the past 6 years, is a street dancer who specializes in popping and waving (two dance forms of the Funk style dance genre). Born in Kenya and raised in Saudi Arabia, Kambi brought his talents to the Juilliard School as a drama major. As a dancer and choreographer, Kambi performed in and helped to stage works for the PMT Seasonal Showcases, C.R.O.W.D. theater company, Nitestar theater company, MTV (specials featuring Beyonce and The Neptunes), Lincoln Center, NYU, and NYC slam AIDS benefit.
Kambi's acting credits include The Marriage of Bette and Boo, The Burden of Solitude, Big Love, The Three Sisters, Architecture of Loss, The Winter's Tale, and As You Like It. As an artist, Kambi constantly challenges himself to step outside his comfort zone and create new work, help propel all forms of urban dance (b-boying, funk style, hip-hop, house, etc) into the next millennium, and educate a new generation of street dancers.
Last year Kambi worked with Missy Elliot and her group the Misfits while also assisting choreographers Chris Matthias and the Guardians of dance. He currently performs with Naganuma Contemporary Dance Company.
