Campers Ages Eight - Ten
Summer dance camp tailored to 8 - 10 year old girls
AGE APPROPRIATE CURRICULUM
We understand that girls ages ten and under need praise and encouragement from adults at the same time they need reminders of their responsibilities. They need wise guidance and channeling of interests and enthusiasm, rather than domination or unreasonable standards. They need a best friend. They need the experience of belonging to a peer group with an opportunity to identify with other girls of the same age. They need adult-supervised groups and planned activities. They are active, rough and tumble in play, and they need friends and membership in a group. They need training in skills, but without pressure. We find that girls ages eight through ten need reasonable explanations without talking down, definite responsibility, and frank answers to questions about coming physiological changes.
ADTC PROGRAMMING FOR CAMPERS AGES 8 - 10
Under the guidance of counselors who enjoy working with young campers and are specially trained to meet their needs, campers ages ten & under get extra support during their camp stay. While at ADTC, girls have the opportunity to grow both as individuals and as members of their peer group. Girls ten & under live, play, and usually dance together (unless placed with older girls after Sunday evening "dance screening"), enjoying activities as a group while learning to respect each other’s differences.
From morning “reflections” to bedtime “team meetings,” campers ages ten & under grow in spirit, mind, and body, learning ADTC core values of Admiration, Dedication, Trust and Caring in a supportive setting. Night activities bring all teams together to enjoy large group games and competitions. For campers ages ten & under who are staying multiple sessions, the Saturday layover includes all-camp team activities that stress participation and cooperation over winning.
