Amber Yate's credentials as a dance artist encompass choreographer, performer and teacher. Amber holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours Degree in Dance from York University. She is also a certified Fitness Instructor Specialist with Can-Fit-Pro.
Amber's choreographic accomplishments include hip hop, modern contemporary and jazz pieces for You-Nique Dance Collective at the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts. She has over five years as a competitive choreographer (specializing in hip hop) - winning overall and high score awards. She has choreographed for local musical productions such as Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat and The Music Man, created the talent dance for Miss Guyana Canada 1999, for an independent music video, and dances for drama productions such as The Crucible, and Departures and Arrivals.
She has had a variety of opportunities to perform. She was a member of competitive dance teams that successfully competed in Canada and the USA. Amber has also performed for You-Nique Dance Collective, in an independent music video, for The United Way Charity Gala, in a number of promotional dances to launch Ralph Lauren fragrances at The Bay, as a freelance dancer for independently produced shows, and as an actress in five drama productions including the Sears Drama Festival. She has also worked as an extra in television and films.
Amber’s teaching talents have taken her places including the Yukon: teaching a variety of classes in hip hop, jazz, and afro-funk at the Northern Lights School of Dance summer intensive. In fact, she is currently in Egypt dancing with Sharm El Sheikh in Sinai. Ironically, she has a dolo in Cararet - one of the same songs she choreographed a musical theatre number for in Squaw Valley, CA this summer!
Sharing her passion for dance has offered many experiences in teaching at a number of studios. Amber has also delivered workshops within school systems as an independent artist and as part of The Traveling Stage, a company expanding appreciation of the arts in the education system. She has been Camp Director for a number of Creative Arts and Dance Technique summer programs, teaching everything from musical theatre to ballet. Amber's dedication to dance stems from her belief that dance is a powerful art form as a means of expression and for the pure joy of movement.
